Tip & Bill Split Calculator

Work out the tip, add tax or VAT, and split the total evenly between any number of people — with instant results.

To calculate a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage, then divide the total by the number of people sharing it. A $80 bill with a 15% tip comes to $92, or $46 each between two people. Tipping norms vary widely: 15–20% is customary in the United States, while 5–10% or nothing at all is normal elsewhere.

Tap a tip percentage, add tax or VAT if it isn’t already included, and tell the calculator how many people are sharing. It works out the tip, the total, and exactly what each person owes — in whichever currency you’ve selected.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

It depends entirely on where you are. In the United States 15–20% is customary for table service; across much of Europe 5–10% is generous, and in Japan and much of East Asia tipping is not expected at all.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Either is acceptable. Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the stricter convention and costs slightly less; tipping on the total is simpler. This calculator lets you choose.

How do I split a bill evenly?

Add the tip and any tax to the bill, then divide by the number of people. Enter the group size above and the per-person amount is calculated for you.

What if a service charge is already included?

Many countries add a service charge automatically. If your bill already includes one, set the tip to 0% — tipping again on top is optional and usually unnecessary.
